In a Swiss village celebrated for its opulent chalets, the new Ultima Gstaad does its best to stand out, without standing out. Famous in the 1970s and ’80s for starry regulars like Roger Moore and Ursula Andress, Gstaad has always been a place for the who’s who to enjoy snowcapped scenery in luxury—and anonymity. Ultima continues that tradition with its 17 suites and residences spread across three low-slung chalets. The decor is all white marble and solid timber with lavish touches such as a Baccarat crystal chandelier, Hermès fabrics, and a grand piano made entirely from glass. Rooms come with private balconies as well as bronze-clad fireplaces—not that you’ll need them in the summer months. When the snow melts, visitors swap skis for hiking poles, heading out to explore Alpine meadows and lakes and soaking in outdoor Jacuzzis.
