PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Spring is the season for new beginnings, when opportunities and ideas finally become a reality. I feel this especially as I walk the streets of Amsterdam, a city that I consider something of a second home. Here, the changing seasons are apparent as the sun shines longer each day and things begin to warm up. You’ll see residents happily shedding those hefty winter coats, lingering at alfresco cafés, and taking a break in the parks, where daffodils, hyacinths, and the Netherlands’ famous tulips are in full bloom.

Holding this magazine in your hands, you might realize it is weightier than usual. We’ve been around for a good decade and a half, and this edition is our thickest one yet at more than 200 pages, with no less than 92 of those dedicated entirely to Switzerland. It’s the fruition of a project that has been more than a year in the making, and our editors have been hard at work compiling an invaluable resource for those of you who are planning a trip to the Alpine country later this year.

Of course, DestinAsian would not be complete without showing off some of the best places in our home region. We follow Jason Overdorf as he embarks on an off-road adventure in the Mongolian wilderness, in tandem with a project to bring the country’s native herding dog back from the brink. Meanwhile, Sanjay Surana checks out some of the latest developments in the former Lao royal capital of Luang Prabang, and Theodora Sutcliffe introduces us to a mouth-watering range of Indonesian cuisine in Bali.

All told, there’s plenty to fire the imagination before those much-anticipated mid-year holidays.
