“I constantly hanker for adventure and love exploring places off the beaten track,” says English writer Eshelby, who, when not traveling, lives in an ancient forest in Wiltshire. Although Africa has always been her big love, she’s had a passion for India ever since her first visit as a backpacker more than 20 years ago. Since returning to the subcontinent recently, she hasn’t been able to stay away, writing about Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and here, Odisha. “Odisha is less visited than other states because it’s not well known. Which is a shame, because it offers so much, including the the incredible style and art of its tribal peoples.”
