‘Pure envy’ of spin doctors in the West to attack Chinese aid

-

media outlets claimed that China is trying to draw Europe over to spar with the US. Foreign ex experts told the Global Times that China’s aid to Europe is an example of people-to-people ex exchanges which could become a norm in future in international relations, and “the change of the U US status and its image in Europe is welcome as th they have already deteriorated.”

Predrag Markovic, director of the Institute fo for Contemporary History in Serbia and vice p president of the Socialist Party of Serbia, said it’s “p “pure envy” to attack China’s offer to help as soca called “political” and “propaganda” purposes.

“Why aren’t [US President Donald] Trump an and [British Prime Minister] Boris Johnson re ready to do similar ‘propagandist work?’ Because th they are only ‘spin doctors,’” he said.

Wang Yiwei, director of the Centre for Europ pean Union Studies at the Renmin University of C China in Beijing, told the Global Times, “Some cl claim China is engaged in a PR show when the co country provides support to European countries. B But the truth is China truly upholds the concept of a community of shared future for mankind.”

“After the pandemic, there will be a new ch chance for the world to evaluate China’s global st status, which will be widely recognized and acce cepted,” Wang said.

Positive consequence

The NHC and Chinese Center for Disease C Control and Prevention has set up a joint expert te team with the European Commission’s Directorat ate-General for Health and the European Centre fo for Disease Prevention and Control to respond to the epidemic.

Wang Yiwei said these European countries ca can’t count on the US or the EU to provide them ai aid, so China sends out humanitarian support to re relevant countries at their request. “When international organizations can’t provide help, China co could offer more possibilities to help handle the is issue, which could not be interpreted as taking ov over the US influence on the continent.”

Fabio Massimo Parenti, a professor at the In International Institute Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, said “Chinese assistance [in Italy] is becoming astonishing and amazing.”

Parenti said some detractors of China’s p policy abroad are always alive. “Someone tried to speculate about the Chinese aid, but they do not have a basis. They tried to talk about China’s propaganda, saying that they are not donations, but they are wrong,” he said.

“We will welcome the change of the US status an and its image in Europe, which are not so good. C China and Italy can pave the way for a new path of international cooperation,” he said.

Relations between China and the EU encounte tered some turbulence last year. But the pand demic allowed many people in the West realize th the importance of global cooperation, and they g gave high recognition to the genuine help from C China, analysts said.

Björn Nashan, Professor of Surgery and Dire rector of the Clinic of Hepato-pancreatico-biliary S Surgery and Transplantation in Germany, said th the majority of Europeans would agree China h has greatly helped Europe fight the virus.

“All the people I know and speak with think th that China did a great job, but our media are p perceived as hypocrites,” said Nashan.

Carlos Sentís, an expert on West-China re relations in Spain, said he “believes the consequ quence of this pandemic is going to be positive to fight populism and the ideas behind trade w wars and closing borders.”
