The mother of a female teacher who was denied leave by her employer while suffering from cancer has demanded that the dean of her faculty make an official apology after her daughter died, the Beijing Morning Post reported on Tuesday.

On August 22, days after the death of 32- year- old Liu Lingli, a teacher at Lanzhou Jiaotong University in Northwest China’s Gansu Province, a delegation from the school paid a visit to Liu Lingli’s family with a total of 72,000 yuan ($ 10,860) in back wages and pension contributions.

However, the visit was not welcomed by the family.

“I demand Chen Ling [ the dean] make a public apology to my family,” raged Liu Shuqin, Liu Lingli’s mother.

There has been no official response from the university as of press time.

Liu Shuqin has accused Chen of telling her to “stop crying in front of me, I’ve seen enough” when she came to ask for more time off for hospitalized Liu Lingli and help with medical bills. These requests were rejected, the China Youth Daily reported.

Five days later after her mother’s visit, Liu Lingli found out that the school had sacked her due to her “unacceptable” absenteeism. The family filed a lawsuit against the school’s decision, and the court told the school that their actions were invalid on January 19, 2015.

The court also demanded the school to rehire Liu Lingli. However, the school did not implement the court’s ruling.
