Xinjiang to recruit 3,000 policemen
Govt offers 5,000 yuan a month plus 500 yuan to ‘ maintain stability’
Police in the city of Kashgar, Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region plan to offer an attractive package to thousands of new recruits.
An online recruitment site of the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau in Kashgar, Kashgar prefecture shows that the police in the city of Kashgar will recruit 3,000 men aged between 18 and 35, according to a notice posted on the government website on Sunday.
The police stations will be located along streets and residen- tial communities, according to news site xinjiangnet. com. cn.
Each new recruit would be offered 5,000 yuan ($ 725) a month, with an additional 500 yuan for “maintaining stability,” said the recruitment notice.
Applicants should sign up in person at the Human Recourses and Social Security Bureau of Kashgar from Sunday to March 25, said the recruitment notice.
According to the Xinjiang Daily, the Xinjiang regional government has set an income target for urban residents of 2,500 yuan a month for 2017.
The notice also said that they could provide apartments for couples from other regions if the husband is recruited.
“The recruitment is real. The salary and housing benefits are real as well,” a police officer in Kashgar told the Global Times on Monday.
But he did not provide further details, saying it is the Human Recourses and Social Security Bureau that is responsible for the applications, examinations, interviews and qualification reviews.
According to the Kashgar city government, the city’s population is 600,000, with Uyghurs comprising around 70 percent.
The Kashgar prefecture, which shares a 970- kilometer- long border with Tajikstan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, has a population of over 3 million, 94 percent of whom are Uyghurs, said the Xinhua News Agency.
Southern Xinjiang, including the Kashgar prefecture, has been plagued with terrorist attacks. In August 2014, 37 civilians were killed and another 13 injured in a terrorist attack in Shache county, Kashgar prefecture, Xinhua reported. Fiftynine attackers were shot dead and 215 arrested, according to Xinjiang news website ts. cn.
Local police in a township near Kashgar prefecture detained six people allegedly involved in a terrorist attack on December 15, 2013, which killed 16 people, including two police officers and 14 attackers. Two weeks later, nine terrorists attacked a police station in Shache county. They wielded knives, threw explosives and set police cars on fire, Xinhua reported.
Chen Quanguo, Party chief of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, said in January that maintaining stability is a major task for all levels of the regional government, and it overrides all other work.
He said that Xinjiang’s fight against the “three evil forces” is urgent, complicated and timeconsuming.
