Some French media reports described the killing as a “legitimate defense” against “an assailant with scissors.”

However, local Chinese media reports, quoting a daughter of the man, said the 160- centimeter- tall man, a father of five children, did not attack the policeman at all.

A Sichuan University student scored a dream date despite her attempt at a meet cute that almost cost her dearly.

The young woman, identified on Sina Weibo as “scunifo,” posted she attempted to strike up a conversati­on with a handsome man in the study lounge by intentiona­lly knocking his glass over.

Instead of breaking the ice, she broke his glass, which turned out to be quite expensive.

Crushed, the woman took to Weibo to vent about the “awkward” experience.

But her sweetheart was far from broken up over the incident.

“Would you like to see a movie with me?” he commented on her post.

He not only saw through her bungled attempt at flirting, but also said she wouldn’t need to buy him a new glass, the comment read.

Police in East China’s Zhejiang Province arrested two young men after they held up a string of pharmacies on early Monday morning.

The two suspects robbed three 24- hour drugstores in a row soon after arriving by air from Yunnan Province.

But since most sales at the stores were conducted through mobile payment platforms, police said the pair only managed to score around 2,000 yuan ($ 290) in cash.

“Doesn’t anyone carry cash in Hangzhou?” the suspects asked police.

The two men are awaiting trial.

A father expressed his joy over the arrest of his son by lighting congratula­tory firecracke­rs in front of a police station in East China’s Jiangsu Province on March 19.

The father surnamed Jin praised policemen at Qilidian station in the city of Zhenjiang for apprehendi­ng his son for his involvemen­t in a pyramid scheme.

Jin said his son had been unemployed for years, and was happy that he would finally have something to do.

“Now he can think about it in jail,” said Jin.
