Taiwan man livestreams as he sneaks into military area

A Taiwan man was arrested Thursday after he livestreamed himself on Facebook sneaking into a government complex and saying he planned to assassinate a “minister”.

The suspect, a 31- year- old man surnamed Wu, was taken into police custody on the grounds of the island’s “Ministry of National Defense” on Thursday.

He has been since checked into a hospital for possible mental illness, Taiwan media reported.

Officials said Wu climbed a wall surrounding part of the government building in Taipei’s Zhongshan district.

“I will assassinate the minister today,” Wu said during his livestream on Facebook from inside the compound.

Wu then appears to stroll around the military area for a few minutes before he is approached by a guard, video from the livestream shows.

Guards said Wu claimed to be a tourist from the Chinese mainland before asking for a drink of water.

Local police notified Wu’s family of the break- in and an official investigation is underway.

Netizens on both sides of the Straits scoffed at the ease Wu had in breaking into a military compound.

“Let’s pay a silent tribute to the ‘ ministry’ for its carelessness,” wrote a Taiwan netizen, haiwainet.cn reported.

“This psychopath outsmarted Taiwan’s military and senior officials,” posted “jiuyao614” on news site guancha.cn.
