-

A high school teacher in Shaoyang, Central China’s Hunan Province has been arrested on suspicion of raping two of his students, local police announced on their official Sina Weibo account Tuesday.

Police said the 35- year- old teacher surnamed Yuan is suspected of having sex with two of his underage students in his office after he became the lead teacher of a ninth- grade class at a Dongkou county middle school in March.

Yuan asked the two girls to come alone to his office several times by themselves and repeatedly raped them until one of their mothers called the police on Monday, news portal chinanews. com reported Wednesday.

Police said their investigation is ongoing.

There have been several cases of teachers sexually assaulting their students in recent years, which have sparked public outrage.

The 41- year- old headmaster of Xianjin Primary School in Southwest China’s Guizhou Province was sentenced to death in May 2015 for raping and molesting six girls aged from 8 to 13 years old, according to cjrnews, a WeChat account affiliated with the Yangtze River Daily.

Yang attacked the students in a classroom and his office several times under the pretext of helping them with their homework.

Children have also been molested by government officials, with the public demanding more protection for minors and severe sentences for those convicted of such offenses.

A former principal and a former housing bureau official in South China’s Hainan Province were sentenced to over 13 years and over 11 years in prison respectively in 2013 by the provincial court for raping six primary school students.
