Violist Avri Levitan to close out Musethica music week in Beijing

Israeli violist Avri Levitan is set to close out Beijing Musethica Music Week with a music performance at the capital’s Forbidden City Concert Hall on Wednesday night.

This comes after the musician performed nine public concerts as part of the Musethica project on Monday and Tuesday with support from the Israeli Embassy in Beijing and the Forbidden City Concert Hall.

According to the introduction on Musethica’s official Facebook, the project is an educational project that seeks to take musical performances out of traditional concert halls and bring them to informal venues “for the enjoyment and enlightenment of people from all walks of life.”

On Monday, Levitan, the founder of the Musethica project, performed with Wang Chuting, a young student from The Central Conservatory of Music, during an event for senior citizens at a local Beijing community center.

Wang, who was selected from a group of young musicians to play at the event, said after the concert that she was grateful for the experience the public event provided.

“Avri Levitan’s Musethica has inspired me and has deepened my understanding of music and how to present it,” she said.

On Wednesday night, Avri Levitan will perform with musician Wang Zhen, Wang Chuting’s teacher, to present classic pieces including Liebesleid from Fritz Kreisler and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suite in D minor.
