Officials meet to study Xi’s popular book
Communist Party of China (CPC) members and government officials around China, especially those at the grassroots level, are studying the book, Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, in a move that experts said is part of the momentum coming from the 19th National Congress of the CPC that will help implement Party policies in the future.
Grass-roots officials reached by the Global Times on Monday said local governments are organizing officials to study the book which outlines the political ideas of China’s top leadership as well as Party regulations.
His local Party committee has organized a study group, requiring officials and Party members to strengthen their knowledge of the CPC and the book as well as exchange ideas about what they have learned, a Party member surnamed
Li from Shanxi Province in northern China told the Global Times.
Zhang Tao, head of the Jinfeng district publicity department in Yinchuan, Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, told the Global Times on Monday that “the Party committee in the district has attached great importance to studying the book, organizing weekly group study among officials and inviting experts from local Party schools and outside to give lectures to more than 200 officials above deputy director level at least 12 times a year.”
“Officials above deputy director level each have a copy of the book and other officials can obtain one in their office. I have one in the office and one at home to make sure I can read it any time,” Zhang said.
Xi Jinping: The Governance of China contains 79 speeches, talks, interviews, notes and letters of the top Chinese leader between November 2012 and June 2014. The 79 pieces are arranged in 18 chapters and notes are added to help readers understand China’s social system, history and culture.
The book has been translated into 16 languages with a distribution of more than 6.2 million copies around the world.
The People’s Daily introduced the book to help “readers around the world better understand China’s development, domestic and foreign policies,” as well as respond to the concerns of the international community. Momentum
“There is a momentum for studying the series of Xi’s speeches and talks and the Party’s theory on governance of the country before the 19th National Congress which could help unite more than 80 million Party members and fully implement the Party’s policies in the future,” Su Wei, a professor at the Party School of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, told the Global Times.
The book gives practical guidance to officials, Xu said, especially those at the grassroots level, as its content relates to realistic problems and explains profound theories in plain language.
Topics included in the book are the Chinese Dream, economic development, the rule of law, ecological progress, national defense, “one country, two systems,” a new model for major country relations, combating corruption and CPC leadership.
Zhang said that for Ningxia, a region with poverty relief missions, the book gives more guidance for their daily work. “Xi started his work from the grass-roots, and so the book offers many practical tips for daily work,” he said.
The book includes Xi’s speeches during his December 29-30, 2012 visit to impoverished villages in Fuping county, Hebei Province, northern China in which he said the government should strive to find the right way to raise people out of poverty by adjusting policies to conditions in a scientific manner.
China aims to complete the building of a moderately prosperous society by the end of 2020, with a sharp decrease in the number of poverty-stricken rural residents, according to a report from the 2012 18th CPC National Congress.
