Xi, Trump discuss state visit to China on phone

-

Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump discussed Trump’s visit to China later this year and the Korean Peninsula situation over the phone late Monday.

In the phone conversation, Xi said that China and the US share extensive common interests and have seen good momentum in their cooperation in all areas.

The Chinese leader said that he is happy to keep in contact with the US leader on a regular basis over topics of mutual concern.

He also said that Beijing attaches great importance to Trump’s state visit to China, and called on both sides to work closely so as to ensure a fruitful trip and inject new impetus into the development of SinoUS relations.

For his part, Trump said he is looking forward to his visit to China, hoping that the trip can strongly move bilateral ties forward.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation.

Xi invited Trump to visit China during their meeting in April at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The two leaders also met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in July.

Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and President Donald Trump’s Senior Adviser Jared Kushner at the White House on Wednesday to promote bilateral ties.
