Beijing’s Night of Fashion
The night belonged to local Chinese designers at the Beijing Exhibition Center on Friday as The Night of Fashion Beijing, one of the largest showcases of original Chinese fashion designs, explored the historic Silk Road through fashion shows, music, dance and videos. According to event organizer China Hi-Tech Group, the Night of Fashion Beijing, now in its third year, has grown into a platform to showcase fashion designs and lifestyle trends.
Taking the ancient Silk Road as its theme, the gala featured numerous collections from top Chinese designers including Zeng Fengfei, Chu Yan and Hu Sheguang, and French designer Irakli Nasidzé that helped the audience travel back to the glorious past of one of the most well-known trade routes in the world.
Zeng, the winner of China’s top Golden Award and one of the designers responsible for the Chinese clothing worn by foreign leaders at the APEC Beijing Meeting in 2014, told media that Chinese designers need to seize the opportunity to showcase their own capabilities as well as their pride in Chinese culture.
“Fashion Beijing has allowed more designers and consumers to regain our confidence in our own culture,” he said.
“A stage open to all designers, Fashion Beijing encourages young designers to showcase their designs, which help the public realize that our long history and culture can be a source of inspiration,” said Zhang Jie, chairman of Fashion Beijing’s organization committee and president of the China Hi-Tech Group.
“We are not only encouraging Chinese designer to walk out and shine at international stages, but also welcoming overseas designers,” he added.
“This is the only way to achieve cultural integration of the East and West.”
Nasidzé made his debut at Fashion Beijing by showcasing a collection of over 20 designs. He noted that he was especially inspired by Chinese butterfly designs.
