Court calls out debtors with ‘reel of shame’ at local theaters
Another Chinese city is using the silver screen to shame accused debtors at local cinemas.
Since June, a video showing the names and faces of 11o debtors has been shown before movies at theaters in Hengshui, Hebei Province.
A Taocheng district court kicked off the campaign in May against those who had ignored court orders by assigning offenders with a ringtone that informs callers of their crimes.
More than 100 people have since turned themselves in.
Similarly, a court in Sichuan Province ordered for a short, cartoon describing the local debtors’ crimes to be shown before films, followed by their photos and identities.
