Off-duty cop sniffs out drug dealer

-

A suspected drug dealer was taken into police custody after he bumped into an off-duty narcotics officer with a very sharp sense of smell, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reported.

The suspect, a forty-something man surnamed Zhang, accidentally ran into the Public Security Bureau officer while she shopped at a Wuhan department store on June 25.

The officer surnamed Yu said during the encounter she caught a whiff of “magu,” a methamphetamine-based drug mixed with caffeine.

They exchanged apologies and Zhang walked off. However, Yu, now suspicious, followed Zhang while quietly calling for backup.

Within 10 minutes, three policemen had descended on Zhang. He was found in possession of more than 400 magu pills and large amounts of cash.

He was taken into custody. A urine sample from Zhang tested positive for the drug.

More than 2,000 magu pills were later found at Zhang’s residence.

Police are still investigating the case.
