Dating event lets singles peek in each other’s online shopping carts
A dating event that gave singles a chance to peek at the contents of their potential partners’ online shopping carts was held in a Beijing courtyard.
More than 250 men and women participated in the event, which involved screengrabs of each person’s Taobao carts on long scrolls, along with their contact information.
Singles were encouraged to peruse the lists hanging from trees throughout a courtyard and connect with anyone whose cart sparked their interest.
The organizer, a 26-year-old Beijinger surnamed He, said shopping provides a more unique window to the soul.
“I felt our shopping carts tell more about our real interests, desires and needs than what we own or our jobs,” said He.
Ages ranged from 22 to 28, event staff said. Out of more than 250 participants, 18 went on dates following the event.
