Jing-Jin-Ji focuses on innovation
Govts are building transport network for Xiongan
China has strengthened efforts over the last four years to drive the integration plan for the northern JingJin-Ji area, a coordinated move by Beijing, North China’s Tianjin and North China’s Hebei Province, and has achieved substantial progress in transportation, environmental protection and industrial upgrading, an official said on Thursday.
“To advance the integration plan for Jing-Jin-Ji is a vital national strategy and its core purpose is to move Beijing’s non-capital function out of the city in an orderly manner,” Wu Weihua, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress, told a forum held in Beijing.
Designed to take over Beijing’s non-capital functions and promote the integration of the Beijing-TianjinHebei region, the Xiongan New Area in Hebei has been built in a stable manner, according to the official.
The planning for the economic zone has come into shape and more than 20 specific plans for sectors like transportation, energy, industry and cultural relics are being implemented, Wu said, noting that some large projects for the pollution treatment of Baiyangdian, the largest freshwater lake in northern China, have started.
Liu Xiaoming, vice-minister of transport, told the same meeting that the local governments in the region will try to build a fast and convenient transportation network for Xiongan.
Liu said that relevant departments will also speed up the construction of Beijing’s new airport and ensure it is put into operation in 2019.
In a bid to forge the Jing-Jin-Ji region into a new benchmark for regional economic growth, local governments are expected to enhance industrial competitiveness through improving innovation and aiming for an advanced manufacturing sector, experts noted.
The region is expected to promote advanced manufacturing and emerging industries, and to actively employ technology such as internet, cloud computing and big data to help traditional enterprises enhance their technological levels, according to Wu.
The region will take the lead in establishing a united social credit code system and credit information-sharing platform to further link industries and departments, Wu said.
Meng Jing, president of China Fortune Land Development Co (CFLD), said at a media briefing during the forum that “the next 10 years is a golden decade for the growth of the Jing-Jin-Ji region” and that the CFLD will try to contribute to promoting regional development through advancing industry cities.
