Official charged with storing subversive magazines, trading favors for sex

A district official in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality has come under investigation by discipline officials, who have charged him with “buying and storing subversive magazines” and “attempting to invent ill theories,” the Chongqing Discipline Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced Thursday.

Wu Dehua, a former standing committee member of the CPC Yubei district committee, was found to have seriously violated political discipline by purchasing and secretly storing subversive magazines, spreading political rumors, joining illegal organizations, attempting to create ill-minded theories, conducting superstitious activities, practicing divination, and refusing to cooperate with an investigation, the official announcement said.

Wu also accepted bribes from subordinates for a long period of time and traded favors for sex.

Moreover, he was found to have secretly accepted bribes from Beijing-based hightechnology company IZP in exchange for helping this company.

Wu has no social morality or virtue, said the commission, noting that Wu was evicted from the CPC and all his titles were removed. Wu’s illegal earnings will be confiscated.

Having realized that the core of governing while deepening reform is the selection and appointment of officials, the Party issued guidelines to make the process more democratic, giving more weight to public opinion about the candidates, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency reported in August 2017.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, several scandals involving bribery by officials for votes have broken out across the country, shocking the public, said Xinhua.
