Fifteen 80 million-year-old dinosaur egg fossils found in East China

Fifteen complete dinosaur egg fossils have been found in Guanyintang village in Yiwu, a city in East China’s Zhejiang Province. Experts have identified them as dating back about 80 million years.

The fossils were sent to the Yiwu Museum for further investigation on October 5. Du Tianming, director and a researcher at the Earth Science Department of the Zhejiang Museum of National History, told the Zhezhong News that “the discovery can be identified as dinosaur egg fossils, dating back to 80 million years ago, the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era.”

He said that some of the 15 complete dinosaur egg fossils appear in groups while others appear individually. “This will help popularize science education in the future, as well as boost local geographical research,” he noted.

In the past few years, a lot of dinosaur footprints fossils have been found near the village, and in the surrounding area.

Guanyintang village, located at the junction of Yiwu and Dongyang, has become wellknown since a large number of dinosaur footprints were discovered several years ago. New species of dinosaurs and eggs have been found frequently across Zhejiang Province in recent years, including six officially named dinosaur species and over 24 identified dinosaur eggs species.

Dinosaur fossils in Zhejiang Province are well-known for their wide distribution, varied species, multiple habitats, and abundant rare species. The discovery of such a large and densely packed group of dinosaur eggs in Guanyintang village is rare, said the expert.
