Cat steals slippers, neighbors’ hearts

From your socks to stuffed toys, cats can be little kleptomaniacs. No one knows this better than a cat owner in Sichuan Province who one day noticed his gray cat carrying a slipper – that wasn’t his.

“My cat came home on Sunday carrying a slipper in her mouth. She probably mistook it for a toy while playing around outside,” Niu told We Video.

Niu soon put up a lost and found poster around his building that invited any neighbors missing their footwear to come and claim it.

“Bring the other one as a proof,” reads the poster, which creatively tells the slipper saga with added photos and cute drawings.

Then Niu’s cat nicked the second one. “I thought I should return the slipper, so I made that poster. Surprisingly, my cat completed the pair before anyone showed up,” Niu said.

“It is my fault for not training her well and stopping her from stealing things like rubber bands,” Niu wrote in a second poster.

He got a response the next day from a woman in his building who said she had lost her slippers recently.

However, she sent her grandfather to pick them up.

Niu later thanked his neighbors for understanding and treating his cat with kindness.

However, some on social media joked that that his cat was trying to do him a favor and he should have taken the chance to introduce himself to the woman.
