Red Dot Design Museum opens in Xiamen, Fujian Province

-

The Red Dot Design Museum opened in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian Province, on Saturday.

The Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen, the third such museum in the world, features international award-winning works.

It was transformed and renovated from the former Terminal 2 of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. It is the largest airport museum in the world, with two floors of more than 4,500 square meters of exhibition space, displaying works under the three categories of the Red Dot Design Award.

Back in 2012, the Red Dot Design Museum inked a longterm partnership with Xiamen and Red Dot exhibitions, which has since become an integral part of Xiamen International Design Week.

In November 2016, professor Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, signed an agreement with Xiamen Culture Media Group, announcing that the Red Dot Design Museum and Red Dot’s China headquarters would be based in Xiamen.

The professor said that China’s design industry has quickly developed in recent years, and that he hopes the museum will bring together world-leading design resources and design thinking courses to empower world-class enterprises and cultivate top creative design talent.

Founded in 1995 in Germany, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the most important design awards worldwide. In 1997, the first Red Dot Design Museum was built in Essen, Germany, and in 2005, the second was built in Singapore.
