Solidarity, not buck-passing, is the most powerful weapon in global COVID-19 fight
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, it poses an enormous threat to global public health security. It is therefore imperative for the international community to join hands and fight the disease.
However, at this critical moment, the administration of the US, now the epicenter of the pandemic, has tried to stigmatize China time and again and spread disinformation.
The US aim is to divert American public’s attention from its own botched epidemic response and to disrupt the global fight against the virus.
Unbelievably, some US politicians and media outlets claim that China should be held legally accountable for the global pandemic. They accuse China of covering up information about the outbreak, they demand China to compensate for losses incurred, and have even resorted to conspiracy theories by claiming that COVID-19 is man-made and escaped from a laboratory in Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province. These are sheer fabrications with an ulterior political motive.
As the world’s sole superpower, boasting massive economic strength, powerful research capacity, and advanced medical resources, the US should have taken more responsibility in this global fight.
However, to global disappointment, Washington became disruptor and set a bad example by acting selfishly.
Countries share the will and the woe in face of myriad daunting challenges, which drive home the urgency of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Faced with the worst pandemic in decades, only with solidarity and cooperation will the international community be able to prevail and protect our common home.
