Copenhagen summit ‘self-entertainment’ for anti-China gang
An anti-China gang composed of Tsai Ing-wen, Michael Pompeo and Joshua Wong will meet by video conference during the Copenhagen Democracy Summit on Thursday and Friday. Chinese experts said the forum is a naked provocation against the “one-China policy.”
With the theme of “US global leadership and the 2020 elections, democracy and tech, responsible business, and defending democracy during pandemic times,” the summit will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Formed in 2018, the summit is organized by the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by former North Atlantic Treaty Organization secretary general and Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
Cui Hongjian, director of the Department of European Studies under the China Institute of International Studies, said that despite stressing the unofficial tone, the summit was essentially another self-entertaining gathering of a Western anti-China gang under the banner of democracy.
Cui said the summit has had limited impact since being organized in 2018. Due to the pandemic, the use of video conferencing has made it possible to invite more anti-China participants.
Analysts believe it is brazen for Wong, an activist and traitor who incites violence in Hong Kong, to address a forum touting democracy amid escalating anti-racism protests in the US.
The appearance of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is a naked provocation. And Tsai and Wong are simply two cards of the US in the game with China, said Zhou Hong, an elected member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Under the ceaseless propaganda and hype of some Western politicians, anti-China and antiCommunist ideas have become politically correct, Zhou said.
