The main cultural meeting spot is the Basilica Hudson, a former foundry later converted to a glue factory. Today, it’s a cultural centre that offers a rich calendar of events featuring music and visual arts, all curated by owner and artistic director Melissa Auf der Maur, the former bassist of the band Smashing Pumpkins. She’s the pioneer of an artistic renaissance that will soon include the Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI), an old tennis club converted into a performing arts centre. Worth a visit in the nearby town of Beacon is the Dia Art Foundation, an open exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art with installations by top international artists.
