Shanghai’s streets are lined with all of the usual high end and high street suspects, but the city also offers its fair share of independent design boutiques. Most notable among them is Neri&Hu’s Design Commune, a stunning showroom housed in a former police station that provides a platform for international designers and also serves as a flagship destination for Neri&Hu’s own furniture brand, Design Republic. More architectural experience than actual shop, the brickand glass-fronted space also plays host to a restaurant, a cafe and a one-room hotel. For luggage-friendly purchases, nip into nearby Spin Ceramics, a store that sells contemporary Chinese porcelain and stoneware created by its own collective of ceramicists and made in Jingdezhen – the birthplace of porcelain – using traditional techniques.
上海街頭列滿高級品牌商店，但同時也暗藏多間獨立設計精品店。最出色的大概是Neri&Hu的Design Commune，在前警察局內為國際設計師提供平台展示作品，也是Neri&Hu自家傢具品牌Design Republic的旗艦店。比起店子，它更似是提供建築體驗的天地，這個飾以磚和玻璃的空間建有餐廳、咖啡店和一房酒店。附近的Spin Ceramics出售當代中式陶瓷和石器用品，空間寬敞、拉著行李入內購物也非常方便，由自家陶藝師在陶瓷之鄉景德鎮利用傳統技術精製而成。
