ALBERNI BY KUMA IS JAPANESE STARCHITECT KENGO KUMA'S VISIONARY NEW DEVELOPMENT
SET TO BECOME AN ICON OF DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER, Alberni by Kuma is a spectacular residential vision, realised by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in collaboration with Canadian luxury property developers Westbank Corporation and Peterson Group. To celebrate its situation in a locale so closely connected to nature, the 43-storey tower is clad in wood, aluminum and glass to reflect the sky and its environs, and has been imbued with a meticulous Japanese sensibility and appreciation of beauty.
"By adopting a time-honoured Japanese design element, engawa, to create in-between spaces, we are able to harmoniously merge interior and exterior spaces. Our aim is to create a sense of softness and intimacy. Even for people who merely visit for a performance, they instantly feel at ease with nature in the Japanese moss garden," shares Kuma. A two-Michelin-starred restaurant called Waketokuyama, a winery, an art gallery and more complete the exceptional offerings of the development.
