The Meaning of Art

-

Our homes are our havens – the safe sanctuary where we retreat to enjoy the ultimate pleasures in life. In these troubling times, more than ever, the home is essential to our well-being. Personalising one’s space is always a priority, but we have observed an obvious shift in design aesthetic recently to a preference for calmer, cleaner spaces. Where less is more and the most inspirational of abodes give its inhabitants the ability to reconnect with life’s simple pleasures, refresh and regenerate.

I can’t think of a better example than the beautifully crafted homes of Koa Niseko (shot exclusively for this month’s cover story on Pg 58) to better encapsulate this. Conceived by Jason Kuok, the founder and managing director of Supernova Land, together with his partners and close friends, Jason Cheung, Justin Potter and Joseph Luk, an exclusive collection of villas and semi-detached townhouses in Higashiyama place the focus on slow living and cosy contentment. From a design perspective, they are bliss – architectural uniformity, light hues and luxurious natural materials blend seamlessly with curated furnishings and custom made pieces for the perfect abode to savour with loved ones. Those of you hunting for a second home or seeking long stay options in Niseko need look no further.

On the topic of property investment, we’ve launched our all new real estate guide (Pg 120) to introduce the most enticing homes in Asia and around the world. March is traditionally known as art month and this issue also explores how we incorporate art and all its forms into the way we live, the way we decorate our homes and how art makes us feel (Pg 108). Check out the fairs to look out for and more on homejournal.com and please send me your tips and comments to emily.leung@homejournal.com. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events for Home Journal and the Asia Designers Community in the next few months. EMILY LEUNG, PUBLISHER
