WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
CHRISTIE’S, PA RIS SEPTEMBER 6—25
Best known for eschewing traditional standards of beauty in his art, French painter and sculptor Jean Dubuffet often used oil paint mixed with materials such as sand, gravel, tar and straw to create his paintings, resulting in a textured surface. Dubuffet embraced the idea of primitivism in art and was a staunch collector of outsider art. Christie’s takes a look back at his work from the 1960s, the decade that saw the birth of his famed Paris Circus and L’hourloupe series of paintings. CHRISTIES.COM
