GIORGIO ARMANI
Armani is renowned for its precise cuts and beautiful fabrics. The label nudged convention by reinventing women’s suiting, making pieces somewhat tomboyish—singleand double-breasted trouser suits in shades of grey and pinstripes were accessorised with brogues, pocket handkerchiefs and bowler hats. Yet the lightest touch of Armani magic suggested culottes as an alternative to traditional trousers; by adding fabric, the designer changed the working woman’s silhouette. A highlight was the deconstruction of a tuxedo suit into a halter-neck dress. Pops of aqua glimpsed throughout the show were perhaps Armani’s way of willing the winter skies to stay blue.
