He celebrated his 75th birthday last year, yet Ralph Lauren proved he continues to be young at heart by launching his new Polo line alongside this season’s women’s collection. The 25 young Polo looks were preppy, wearable and colourful. Although completely different, the women’s collection was also unmistakably Lauren, demonstrating the breadth of his imagination. The look was long and lean: tunics, flowing trousers and skirts, ponchos worn as outerwear, and knitwear in casual cashmere in a lovely palette of pink, purple, ivory and grey. Fur textures included shimmering stoles, shaggy scarves and fuzzy bomber jackets. The climax came with the gorgeous gowns that you could already imagine looking perfect on Gwyneth Paltrow or Anne Hathaway—strapless, simple and sexy. Judging by the smiles on the models’ faces, the pieces must have felt as wonderful to wear as they looked.
