Punk rock
Saint Laurent
The garage rock of Californian band Froth and art by Raymond Pettibon set the tone for a hybrid look that crosses 1950s rockabilly with 1980s punk. Drainpipe trousers cropped at the ankle were worn with a striped coat, black shirt, skinny grey tie and monochrome creeper shoes. Texture and pattern clashed delightfully in a green Elvis- style sequin jacket worn with a tartan scarf. There was a great variety of coats— single and double- breasted, short and long, trench and biker— in a plethora of fabrics and patterns, from plaid, houndstooth and wool to leather and velvet. A highlight was a khaki parka reworked into what looked like a cape. Accessories were a key element and included a tiger safety- pin brooch, a studded briefcase and marmot- fur lace- ups.
