The Hong Kong Open, first played in 1959, is the old­est pro­fes­sional sport­ing event in Hong Kong.

Ten Ma­jor cham­pi­ons in­clud­ing Rory Mcilroy, Bern­hard Langer and Greg Nor­man have won the Hong Kong Open.

Since it be­came a Euro­pean Tour event, the course record over 72 holes at the Hong Kong Open is held by Ian Poul­ter – who scored a to­tal 258, or 22- un­der- par, in 2010.

Only two play­ers have ever de­fended their Hong Kong Open ti­tle: Hsieh Yung- yo ( 1963- 64) and Miguel An­gel Jiménez ( 2012- 13).
