One of the few lux­ury jew­ellers in the United States, sculp­tor David Yur­man be­gan the brand in 1980 with the support of his wife, Sy­bil. Us­ing his ex­per­tise and artis­tic skills as a sculp­tor, Yur­man cre­ated clas­sic Amer­i­can pieces ex­ud­ing so­phis­ti­ca­tion and moder­nity.

In 1983, Yur­man cre­ated the sig­na­ture Cable Bracelet. A twisted helix in ster­ling sil­ver and 18K gold, it fea­tures gem­stones at each end and quickly be­came an iconic piece for the brand. In 2008, David Yur­man launched its first sig­na­ture women’s fra­grance with the Cable Bracelet as in­spi­ra­tion. It con­tin­ued its ex­pan­sion beyond jew­ellery with the launch of its men’s watch col­lec­tion in 2009.

In 2010, the brand cel­e­brated its 30th an­niver­sary by open­ing its first Euro­pean bou­tique, at the Prin­temps depart­ment store in Paris. Its flag­ship store in Madi­son Av­enue was ren­o­vated to cre­ate a town­house-style bou­tique show­cas­ing Yur­man’s first High Jew­ellery col­lec­tion. The line marked the en­trance of David’s son Evan to the business. The col­lec­tion fea­tured pieces de­signed by Evan and crafted with pre­cious stones.

David Yur­man is ac­tive in the arts and char­ity scene. In 2001, it set up the David & Sy­bil Yur­man Hu­man­i­tar­ian and Arts Foun­da­tion. It also sup­ports or­gan­i­sa­tions such as the El­ton John AIDS Foun­da­tion and the Breast Can­cer Re­search Fund.
