Cyril is one of Japan’s most popular magicians who regularly tours the country with his sell-out live stage show “Magic Revolution: The Xperience.” Voted Magician of the Year in 2007, he has also starred in his own TV show Cyril, simplymagic.

Cyril has travelled the world with his magic show and more recently has produced TV shows such as Cyril’sfamily Vacation in exotic locations including Hawaii and Brazil. But his recent trip to Hong Kong to perform at the launch of Clé de Peau Beauté’s new Synactif Collection was the first time he has worked with a beauty brand.

“There are many similarities between magic and beauty,” he said before the show. “First of all, they both have to be something that you believe in. Magic comes from within, just as beauty comes from within. They are both transformative, they are both unimaginable and they are both perfectible.”

“I needed to understand the product so I became a user. And let me tell you, it has been quite magical. In using the product, I have started to realise what these key words are. I took the elements, which were transformative, unimaginable, and perfection. And I wanted to create a show that emphasised these key elements. So tonight for this show I am doing a one-hour special showcase of magic and beauty.”

The American-japanese magician, whose signature trick involves a hamburger and a restaurant menu, draws on the full range of his experiences for his art and sees magic as a “way of life.”

“I love challenging myself to do new things that I have never done before,” he says. “In this case, on my trip to Hong Kong, it was challenging to try to combine magic and beauty. I took elements of magic that I have done in the past and also created new elements of magic and tried to combine these to express what magic and beauty may be.”

Cyril says his favourite aspect of creating a new magic trick is the brainstorming process. This is because “ideas are unlimited and you can go in any direction, when you start brainstorming. But the most rewarding stage is when you achieve an effect, the trick comes together and the audience responds with applause, smiles or expressions of awe.”

As a magician with a busy schedule, Cyril said that he maintained his skin in a good condition through a combination of a proper diet, exercise and using the right skincare products—such as the Synactif Collection.

Cyril’s favourite product from the collection is the soap, which he uses before the lotion and the cream as part of his daily routine. At home he has the full Synactif skincare range lined up in his bathroom.

“Honestly, I had never thought that these products would have been for men. But in using them, I discovered that there are very easy steps.”

“I don’t like to sit there and have to go through six or seven different bottles just to maintain my skin. So in this case, with the products that Clé de Peau Beauté offer, its three processes in the morning and four in the evening, which is great—it’s simple.”

When it comes to magic, however, Cyril’s patience and dedication to getting just the right mix of elements for a stunning routine or trick knows no bounds. “My magic is never completed because I am always trying to perfect it,” he says. “Even after years and years of still performing the same contents— even a decade later—i am always trying to find new ways to perfect the magic.”
