AN INTIMATE DINNER WITH YUJA WANG AND JAAP VAN ZWEDEN
Classical Delights
Internationally renowned pianist Yuja Wang, in town to perform four concerts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, was the star of a fundraising dinner at The Peninsula in aid of the classical ensemble. She and the Phil treated more than 100 guests to two concertos, and Beijingborn Wang also gave a solo performance, for which she received a standing ovation. Earlier, organising committee co-chairs Edward Ng and Steven Ying kicked off the gala evening with opening remarks, and the orchestra’s music director, Jaap van Zweden, gave a speech in which he lauded Wang. A delicious meal of deep-fried crab claw with grilled Boston lobster, double boiled bird’s nest and braised abalone with roasted chicken roulade was served.
