IN THE MOOD FOR MORE
roberto Cavalli China is clearly on Cavalli’s mind. With the opening of the Costume Institute’s China: Through the Looking Glass exhibition in New York, Cavalli revisited Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love. A cheongsam made of windowpane fabric that was worn by Maggie Cheung in the 2000 film led the designer to use silk in a similar pattern, although it was further embellished with paillettes of feather fringes. Elsewhere in the collection, hints of Eastern influences, from chrysanthemum blooms to hand-beaded embroideries, made their way onto figure-hugging gowns with high necks in a similar fashion to a Chinese qipao.
