The so-called “emer­ald cut”—rec­tan­gu­lar or square, with bev­elled edges— was de­vel­oped spe­cially to present emer­alds to the best ad­van­tage. Emer­alds, how­ever, are also avail­able in cush­ion, oval, bead and pear cuts. A well-cut emer­ald should be able to mask un­even­ness in colour and in­clu­sions.
