absolutely clean emerald, with nearly all of them containing inclusions that are visible to the naked eye. The so-called “emerald cut”—rectangular or square, with bevelled edges— was developed specially to present emeralds to the best advantage. Emeralds, however, are also available in cushion, oval, bead and pear cuts. A well-cut emerald should be able to mask unevenness in colour and inclusions.
