Auction house Bonhams shares Gemfields’ enthusiasm for the segment; it proclaimed 2015 the “Year of the Coloured Gemstones” thanks to the attention the gem has received on the red carpet and in the auction rooms. Coloured gemstones reigned supreme at the Bonhams Fine Jewellery Sale in London, with Jean Ghika, Bonhams’ director of jewellery for Europe, remarking that sales of coloured gemstones were up by as much as 10 times their presale estimate. Clearly, the future is looking bright—and green—indeed.
