In the Pink
THE PENINSULA HONG KONG’S PINK TIE GALA
Pink was definitely the order of the day when the grande dame of Hong Kong hospitality hosted its inaugural Pink Tie Gala to raise funds for the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry. Guests, all wearing a touch of pink, were greeted with a blushed beverage on arrival—perrierjouët Blason Rosé Champagne—before emcee Michael Wong, looking dapper in tails, kicked off proceedings (one of the night’s raffle prizes was a helicopter trip around Hong Kong piloted by Michael). As guests tucked into a four-course meal, Ava Kwong, the chairman of the registry, gave a speech about the importance of testing in preventing hereditary breast cancer. Some wonderful items went under the gavel during the live auction, including a two-day experience at L’ecole Van Cleef & Arpels and a tour of a high jewellery atelier, a private visit to the Colosseum in Rome with an archaeologist, madeto-order men’s driving shoes from Tod’s and some beautiful paintings. Michael returned to the stage after the auction to perform a series of swing hits before the live band took over.
