BACK­GROUND Of In­dian de­scent but born and raised in lon­don, Mayuri Vara moved to Hong Kong five years ago. A phar­ma­cist on course to a ca­reer in medicine, she veered off to ex­plore her pas­sion for art and de­sign. A self-taught jew­ellery de­signer, Vara launched her first col­lec­tion in Hong Kong.

De­sign sig­na­ture

Vara says she de­signs pieces she would wear her­self, jew­ellery that can be used as ev­ery­day ac­ces­sories but can dou­ble up for evening events as well. “i like state­ment pieces, worn with a crisp white shirt dur­ing the day, that you can wear with a dress at night, too,” she says. she adds that Vara of lon­don re­flects her di­verse her­itage, her time in Hong Kong and iconic in­flu­ences, in­clud­ing the late el­iz­a­beth Tay­lor.

De­sign PHI­LOS­O­PHY

Most of Vara of lon­don’s col­lec­tions are hand­crafted with in­tri­cate de­tail­ing. since the launch of the brand at the saatchi gallery in 2014, Vara’s pieces have been fea­tured in a num­ber of in­ter­na­tional pub­li­ca­tions.
