Leta Lau and Lianne Lam In an effort to bring polo, which hasn’t been played in Hong Kong since the departure of the British army at the handover, back to the city, a series of demonstration games was played over the weekend, each involving two-member teams drawn from the Hong Kong Polo Team. A game on Saturday involved Aron Harilela and our February cover star, Raphael le Masne de Chermont, on opposite sides. At one point Aron hit the ball with such force that it ricocheted off a member of the judging panel, causing giggles among the spectators and leaving Aron a little red-faced—a state that was compounded when his side lost the game to Raphael’s team. Fortunately, they were playing with special air-filled balls rather than the hard plastic ones of a tournament match, so the judge wasn’t hurt.
