JOHANNA ORTIZ

Born in Cali, Colombia, Johanna Ortiz studied fashion design in the US at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale before returning to her hometown to create her eponymous label in 2001. It was not until 2014, however, that Ortiz’s salsa-inflected designs went global. Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo saw Ortiz’s spring/summer 2015 collection on Instagram and advised her buyers to purchase the lot, resulting in one of the best-selling trunk shows the shopping site has ever produced. Ortiz shot to Insta-stardom when fashion bloggers Olivia Palermo and Leandra Medine wore—and Instagrammed—her iconic, off-the-shoulder Tulum top. Nowadays the entire fash pack want a slice of Ortiz’s effortlessly sexy, voluminous and vibrantly coloured pieces. And, luckily for them, she is now stocked at the likes of Bergdorf Goodman, Lane Crawford and Neta-porter. All hail the power of Instagram!
