Karl Lagerfeld takes guests to Cuba for a Coco-cum-castro Chanel Cruise show
Arriving at Havana’s open-air Paseo del Prado in a fleet of multicoloured convertibles, guests at Chanel’s Cruise show found themselves in a beautiful and vibrant location at a historic turning point in international relations. Everything about Karl Largerfeld’s collection screamed French-cuban entente cordiale, and what better symbol of this than the beret? Intrinsically Gallic yet inescapably Che Guevara. Lagerfeld sent pearl-studded versions shimmying down the runway alongside floral-trim fedoras and spectator shoes. The 1950s cars of Cuba appeared as prints on several pieces, while denim jackets came with clusters of Chanel-themed pins. In lieu of a traditional finale, the show ended with a lively conga line of dancing models and musicians. All in all, a real coup. Christian Dior
