SANAYI 313

Hong Kong Tatler - - Style | News -

When shoe designer and Parsons School of Design graduate Serena Uziyel returned to Istanbul after honing her cordwaining techniques in Milan and Florence, she joined forces with brothers Enis and Arnir on their venture, Sanayi 313, a Turkish concept boutique that combines interior furnishings, fashion and food. Uziyel, who came on board from the shoe design department of Zara (she had previously done stints at luxury brands Devi Kroell, Judith Leiber and Escada), wanted to launch a collection of shoes and bags that struck a balance between modern style, traditional Ottoman weaving techniques and Italian shoemaking. The result is a brilliantly bonkers collection of raffia slides, sandals and clutches festooned with pompoms, tassels and studs. With an aesthetic that somehow suggests Leandra Medine and Anna Dello Russo on holiday with a Turkish prince, these bags and flats are about to become the next big Instahits. It might not be summertime, but it sure is time to invest.
