THE NUTCRACKER CHRISTMAS BENEFIT
Cracker of a Party
One of the highlights of the Nutcracker Christmas Benefit was a performance by youngsters, many of them the children of volunteers on the organising committee, dressed in costumes modelled on those worn by the members of the Hong Kong Ballet in The Nutcracker. The silent and live auctions were also popular events at the eighth edition of the benefit, which was held at the Island Shangri-la. One lot, a private lesson with one of the ballet company’s dancers, saw some of the 380 guests locked in particularly spirited bidding. Proceeds from the afternoon went to the Hong Kong Ballet Guild, with a portion earmarked for the Dancers’ Sponsorship Fund, which provides dancers with regular physiotherapy, new pointe shoes and overseas exchanges.
