TOME

-

The concept of sustainability might only have entered the fashion vocabulary recently, but Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin, co-founders of Tome, have been creating socially conscious yet stylish clothes for nearly a decade. The duo studied fashion at the University of Technology Sydney. Martin honed his skills under the likes of Alberta Ferretti and Jean-paul Gaultier, while Lobo worked as a buyer and brand consultant. They came together in 2011 in New York to start Tome, a brand grounded in a shared focus on ethical sourcing and sustainable practices, and which promised to cater to all women, often featuring plus-size models and women across all ages wearing their much-loved loose shirts, elegant knits and simple yet architectural dresses. In a slight departure from Tome’s minimalist aesthetic, this season’s collections sees the introduction of bold curtain prints and zebra patterns inspired by two American female artists, Tschabalala Self and Judy Chicago, made in a Peruvian factory that empowers single mothers.
