Abstract: The new noise standard put forward by European Union and International Maritime Organization (IMO) officially came into force on July 1st 2014. This new noise standard has brought many restrictions to ship design and ship construction. Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. carries out studies on the basic theory and prediction procedures of Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) method according to the new standard. Both the power flow balance equation among subsystems and the system dynamic responses are introduced for the basic principles of noise prediction, and the cabin noise model of the sample ship is established for the prediction procedure, where the noise source data are collected and sorted, and the noise level of each cabin is calculated. Then the result is evaluated according to the new standard to find out the necessary measures to reduce noise. The reasons for the noise exceeding the standard are also analyzed to make sure that the cabins meet the new noise standard and thus to raise the competitive ability of the ship in the future.
