The event, the 10th of its kind, attracted more than 700 doctoral and master’s students, as well as undergraduates, from schools such as University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics and Political Science, MIT and Harvard University. They hold degrees in accounting, financing and bioscience, among other subjects.

The fair was organized by the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and other parties to attract highquality talent to the city.

Inaugurated in 2009, the fair has served Chinese graduates over the past nine years and helped 4,000 students meet with potential employers in Shanghai.

University of California, Berkeley and University of Toronto took part in the program for the first time this year. University of Toronto is also the first Canadian institution to participate.

Currently, more than 150,000 Chinese graduates of international universities are working or starting up businesses in Shanghai, according to the local human resources and social security Bureau. These returnees have started more than 5,000 enterprises in the city, with over US$780 million in registered capital, bureau data also show.
