- Ma Yue ATHLETICS

THE 2018 Shanghai International Elite 10K Race will be held on October 21, organizers announced yesterday.

The event will feature a total of 7,000 runners — 1,000 more than last year — with 6,400 competing in the 10-kilometer main race and the remaining 600 taking part in the 2K family run.

In its third year, the route for the races will continue to cover the ecological zone on the north side of the Suzhou Creek in Putuo District. The 10K race will start at 7:30am from Suzhou Creek sightseeing pier, with the finish line being set at East China Normal University.

Apart from a music party at the finish line, the organizers promised upgraded service, including adding massage spots and improving clothes storage procedure, to give runners a better experience.

Those interested can log on to www. shang-ma.com or use the event’s official smartphone app to register from 10am, tomorrow to 5pm on Saturday. The quotas will be distributed through a lucky draw and the results will be unveiled on September 21.

The registration system has opened a green channel for “elite runners” who can hand in their applications before 8pm today. Elite runners are those who achieved good results in last year’s race.

The registration fee is 100 yuan (US$14.56) per person for the 10K race and 50 yuan per person for the family run.

The top finishers of the 2018 Shanghai International Elite 10K Race will be granted quotas for next year’s Shanghai International Half Marathon.
