Primary schools and kindergartens in Jiading held “First Class for a New Semester” programs to help students adapt to their new surroundings.

Luwan No. 1 Central Primary School’s Jiading campus had special sessions for grade one students to get to know their classmates, learn to sing the school anthem, draw the school badge and learn campus etiquette.

a guidebook for students and parents, giving guidance on forming good habits and learning new abilities.

Students also received a handbook with nursery rhymes and pictures from which they could learn the school’s code of conduct and how to behave.

At the Little Bee Kindergarten, there was a “hugging for love” initiative, encouraging new students to hug their parents and then classmates and teachers.

“Hugging can make kids get close to their classmates and teachers quickly,” Yang Jiong, kindergarten’s director, said.

Returning students welcomed the new entrants and they enjoyed reading with their families and doing outdoor activities.

There were lectures for parents to prepare students for separation anxiety and to know possible changes in their behavior.

Shuangding Road Kindergarten held an opening ceremony with security guards, cooks and teachers on stage to introduce themselves.

“The kids will live with our faculty every day so we hope they can get along with each other as quickly as possible,” said Pan Xiaomin, kindergarten director.

“Sometimes parents feel more anxiety than kids. We hope parents can leave their kids immediately after they send the kids to kindergarten. After kids return home, parents can ask about their situation in kindergarten so their anxiety can be eased as soon as possible,” Pan added.
